I said on the 8th of November, 2018, “I, Chee Zhao, solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her heirs and successors according to law. So help me God.”

With the oath, I have been reminding myself, “Since you are not a good student on Sherbrooke, you have to be a good soldier on the Saint Lawrence River.”

Enrolment Ceremony

To remember my military enrolment day: the 3rd of November, 2018 …

This is my first Remembrance Poppy. The Remembrance Poppy is an artificial flower that has been used since 1921 to commemorate military personnel who died in war. I have seen people wear the flower every November ever since I landed in Canada in 2010. However, there has been little awareness of having one on my mind. Today, I made a sudden decision to have one, seeing three veterans distributing the artifacts for donation,  when I was passing by IGA, because I intended to have the flower to remember my military enrolment day: the 3rd of November, 2018.
